Etsy had it's very first pop up shop for 10 days in Soho this month, called the Etsy Holiday Shop. For each of those days they asked one artist to come in and paint a live mural. We were lucky enough to be chosen for one of those days! Nervousness ensued, who would we do? The first person that came to mind, someone who is an inspiration to both of us, was Wes Anderson. We debated and went back and forth a lot, too obvious? Will they just roll their eyes? In the end, we decided it was best to go with who we both felt has influenced both of our work the most. So we stuck with our guns, and I'm glad we did. Seth designed the mural and I helped him paint it. We spent the entire day, a whole 12 hours, painting away in the display window. The shop itself was amazing, so many cute things being sold, speakers, musicians, pretty cool, we were so happy to be a part of it.
So here it is, our mural! Can you tell what movie each symbol is from, or which movie the quote is from?
Our focus is on wedding invitations, but Seth has added some great prints and stationary to the shop. He also does branding for photographers every now and then. One of those photographers he's done branding for is his wife, me! You should take a look at my site, and if you need a site/logo of your own let us know!
And in case your curious, this is what I do when I'm not getting back to convos:
For our newest additions to the shop, we've added some more interactive invitations that are more than just a flat 5x7 card (not that there's anything wrong with that mind you).
The map design is an older design we had in the shop redone. A folded up 11x17 map, tied up together with matching twine and tag.
This is a simple folded heart invitation, great for valentines too.
And to celebrate the coming of summer, a whimsical little kit invitation.
We have also updated our long loved Cecil and Elliot design. The couple is customized to look like you, we can add pets, we can add your venue on the hill, or we can start from scratch and make a completely custom background.
PS this makes a great little print for your home after the wedding.
We've also added colored envelopes included in the price for some of our invites.
I am a photographer, Seth is a graphic designer, what we are not is painters. I have always wished for this skill but I am lacking greatly in the paintbrush department. We love the look of illustrated invitations, so we have teamed up with 2 very talented and different illustrators to help us out on this end.
Brady has been doing illustrations with us for a couple of years now. We have been good friends with Brady since college and have always loved his style. He is an amazing print maker, which is no easy feat. You can view his other work on his website, but here are some of my favorites:
This is the invitation he made for us, you can see more examples here.
Our other illustrator is Kelsey, a fellow etsian who specializes in prints. She contacted us a while ago about doing a collaboration, and it just so happened we were looking for another illustrator, and we were so excited when we found we absolutely loved all of her work. See her shop here. I would put all of these up in my house.
And here is the wonderful invitation she's made for our shop:
